Markie is a misfit, and to make it worse she lives in a funeral home and her dad is the town mortician. On Halloween night, during a full moon in 1974 in the church graveyard, she sees the ghost of a bride. As much curious as startled, she tries to communicate with the apparition, not realizing she's just stumbled into one of Hawthorne Hollow's long forgotten mysteries.
Fates seem to be at work when, on the same night, the eccentric Hilda Nightshayde cruises into the sleepy little Maryland town in her aqua-blue 1953 Studebaker Starliner. Markie just happens to spy Hilda as she moves into the old house on Blue Raven Lane at exactly midnight. Once they meet, Markie learns that not only does Hilda have something special and magical about her, but that she herself is special, too. Together they unravel the town's peculiarities—and uncover secrets that some would prefer remain buried.
